This site has no accounts, no sign-up form and no newsletter. Here is, exhaustively, what it knows about you.

What the server records

• The web server logs: for each page requested, the IP address, the time, the page and the browser name. They are used to detect failures and abuse (legitimate interest, art. 6-1-f GDPR) and are deleted after 30 days.
• A visit counter, which is just a number: it records neither who nor from where.

When you search for a city, the name you typed is sent to our server, which passes it to Open-Meteo's geocoding service without your address or anything else. It is not kept.

If you choose “My location”, your browser first asks for your permission. The coordinates are then rounded to about one kilometre before leaving your device, and sent to our server, which queries Open-Meteo (the forecast) and Nominatim (the place name) without your address. They are kept in memory for a few minutes only, never written. Your browser only remembers that you made this choice.

What your browser keeps

The site keeps in your browser (“local storage”, not a cookie) the display theme, the chosen language, the city chosen in the menu, the list of cities you found by searching (twelve at most, which you can remove one by one), and whether you chose to follow your location. These settings never leave your device, are not read by the server, and are erased with your browser's site data. They are strictly necessary for the service you asked for, which is why no consent is requested.

Third parties

• Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) provides the forecasts, under the CC BY 4.0 licence. OUR server queries it, never your browser: Open-Meteo does not see your address.
• OpenStreetMap (openstreetmap.org, ODbL data, © the contributors) draws the map. Your browser loads it directly from openstreetmap.org, which then receives your IP address as for any image from a third-party site; we send it no information about you.
• Nominatim (nominatim.openstreetmap.org, a service of the OpenStreetMap Foundation) names the place you are in when you choose “My location”. Our server queries it, with coordinates rounded to about one kilometre, never your browser.

Advertising

This site shows ads from Google AdSense. To serve them, Google and its partners may set cookies and read identifiers from your browser, in order to measure the audience and, if you accept, to personalise the ads. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, none of this is done without your consent: a consent banner, provided by Google, asks you on your first visit, and you may refuse. Clearing your browser's cookies brings the banner back.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify, erase and object to the processing of data about you (articles 15 to 21 GDPR). Write to the publisher contact@directmeteo.eu. You may also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr).
